Luce Cinecittà Institute is one of the main cinematic realities and works to support and support Italian cinema. The company was founded in 2011 after a long reorganization of the company, which in 2009 included the merger between Cinecittà Holding and the Luce Institute. Luce Cinecittà Institute is a full participation of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

For the celebrations, a collective film was also created, titled 9×10 Novanta, made by the most promising directors of the new Italian landscape.

Luce Cinecittà Institute is active in the distribution and promotion of films, first and second productions of Italian production, and in a significant documentary production of titles that mainly deal with matter from the Historical Light Archives.

Luce Cinecittà Institute organizes worldwide reviews – in agreement with major international cultural institutions – reviews and retrospectives on classic and contemporary Italian cinema, and promotes the development of Italian film distribution on foreign markets. It is part of the activities of a cinema that has about three thousand subtitled titles in a foreign language supporting the activity of cultural promotion abroad. Istituto Luce Cinecittà is also publisher of the CinecittàNews online magazine and the magazine “8½ – Numeros, visions and perspectives of Italian cinema” directed by Gianni Canova and realized in collaboration with ANICA and General Cinema Directorate.

The historical archive of Luce Cinecittà Institute was inherited by the Luce Institute. The archive is one of the few movie archives in the world to make free of charge all of its movie assets through the Internet and YouTube.

In 2013, the Cinema and Photographic Fund of the National Institute L.U.C.E. has entered, the only one among the Italian audiovisual archives, in the prestigious UNESCO’s Memory of the World. In 2014 numerous initiatives in Italy and abroad celebrated the first 90 years of the Light Institute. Among these, a film was produced, 9×10 Novanta, in which nine young Italian directors were called to celebrate the recurrence.
