Ukiyoe, Tokyo Fuji Art Museum

Katsushika Hokusai’s “The 36th Scenery of Futaki” and Utagawa Hiroshige’s “Tokaido fifty three” (late exhibition) are landscape prints representing ukiyo-e, but in Edo, besides that, beautiful painting , Ukiyoe prints of many genres such as actor paintings were published. On the other hand, in Osaka west, actor paintings with customers of Kabuki fans were the main subjects of ukiyo – e. In this exhibition, including about new collections by Kamiyoshi Utagawa, we will divorce about 250 artists of 30 artists from the Ukiyoe collection held by the hotel in the first half and the second half, and enjoy the world of ukiyo-e westward and west.

Ukiyoe originally has wood prints and paintings (paintings). A painting, that is, a painting picture was one point, and one by a famous painter was expensive. On the other hand, because woodcut prints are prints, they can raise many of the same patterns with ease, and the general public in the Edo period was easily requested. There is also a view that collections such as powerful people and Daimyo are being handed over to the leading collection of contemporary times.

Ukiyo-e prints are a part of popular culture, they were hand-picked and petted. As in modern art exhibitions, it was not something you could see in a distance as you put it in forehead. It also played the role of paintings and picture scrolls, and illustrations of tile plates (newspaper). The production of a calendar called an illustrations was also done, and a variety of ideas were created, such as hiding figures in the picture. Even the souvenirs from Edo to Kunimoto were pleased with their beauty and low bulk. Some also clip out like playing a toy picture.

Katsushika Hokusai is a Ukiyo-e artist in the late Edo period. One who represents civilization culture. Major works include “Fortitude 36 Sceneries” and “Hokusai Manga”, and they are world-renowned painters.

Utagawa Hiroshige is an Ukiyoe painter in the Edo period. My real name is Ando Shigenobu. Born in Ando’s constant fire fireworks Ando family, he joined the coach, then became an ukiyoe painter. It influenced painters such as Van Gogh and Monet and is a famous painter worldwide.

A distinctive pattern, a bold composition, not having the expression of a shadow, etc. are features of expression. Perspective perspective was also adopted. Some of them are intentionally staggered, like Hokusai’s “master of fishing” which draws a person in a distant view in reverse.

Also, although it is necessary to consider the exaggeration and intention of the painter, it is also used as a historical material that conveys the landscape being drawn, the sights that have changed and disappeared at the present time, the life, the living industry, the culture etc of people.
