Unioncamere – the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture – is the public body that unites and represents institutionally the Italian Chamber of Commerce. Established in 1901, it establishes and manages services and activities of interest to chambers of commerce and economic categories by coordinating the initiatives of the System through directives and addresses to its bodies. Unioncamere has always joined the functions of institutional representation, protection and support to associates, to a publicity profile, by virtue of the tasks entrusted to the state cello laws and the advertising tasks carried out, in particular the holding of the Register of Enterprises.

For the exercise of the functions and duties entrusted to law by the law, Unioncamere stipulates with the central state administrations, national or local public bodies, program agreements, agreements and conventions promoting and supporting the connection of the Chamber System with the business organizations , consumers and workers. At European level, the Chamber of Commerce of Italy is represented in Eurochambres, the association that brings together the European Chamber of Commerce.

Unioncamere is a public body envisaged by Art. 7 of Law no. 580 of 1993 on the reorganization of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Handicrafts, as amended by the Legislative Decree of 15 February 2010, No.23. The same law also regulates the ordering of Chambers of Commerce and the Italian Chamber of Commerce.

After the First World War, Unioncamere had taken on many publicity posts, but with the birth of Confindustria in 1919, lost the primacy of representation of the business world, to finally enter into crisis with the establishment of Corporations during the fascist twenty years. In 1926, Unioncamere was put into liquidation with the Belluzzo Reform of the Government of Mussolini.

With the Second World War Unioncamere also relocated its activities to accompany Italian companies in the reconstruction and development of the 1960s. Law 580 of 1993 reformed the chamber system by providing that the Unioncamere public body provides the necessary support to Italian companies. The reform is completed with the Legislative Decree of February 15, 2010, No.23, a law governing the ordering of Chambers of Commerce and the Italian Chamber of Commerce.
