Yugawara Art Museum Ashigarashimo-gun, Japan

Yugawara Art Museum (Japanese: 町立湯河原美術館)was opened in 1998 and is set in a restored hotel with history that Soseki Natsume of Japanese writer and Seiho Takeuchi of Japanese painter stayed.

Hot spring resort where Yugawara was known from the times of all ages. A lot of painter and literary people who loved this ground come.

Art museum where town Yugawara art museum collects works of connection in Seiho Takeuchi and Soutarou Yasui, Yugawara including Katsumi Miyake. We redecorated well-established inn in 1998 and were opened as “art museum related to Yugawara”.
We founded “Reiji Hiramatsu hall” which displayed work of artist painter, Reiji Hiramatsu who played an active part in the front line of Japanese painting circles in October, 2006, and put together with “theater” which displayed store product and we changed hall name in “municipality Yukawa Hara Museum” and reopened.

In Japanese garden adjacent to art museum, we can enjoy cherry tree, the fresh green, seasonal scenery including colored leaves among the mountains of nature. In addition, in pond of garden, we raise precious “stock of water lily of Monet” which artist Hiramatsu was handed over to by Monet foundation.

Collection of works:
In the hotel, we store about 380 works, mainly Yukawara’s works.

In the permanent building, about 20 works such as Seiho Takeuchi and Katsumi Miyake are exhibited, and exhibition is being carried out every three months.

Takeuchi Susumu “Kikyu” 6 songs folding screen folding Showa era (1940)

Suzumi is a Japanese painter born in Kyoto. “Tianjin Temple of the East, Sugo Festival of the West” and received the 1st Cultural Medal together with Taikan.

Although it is said that Sugo visited Yugawara in around 1955, while Souseki Natsume also visited Ryokan and Amano shop held many times, he built a residence and a painting room inside the premises, and most of his later years came in this place spent.

This work was a gold folding screen that arranged the sparrow of Su Su Feng and was drawn as a memorial to staying long in Yugawara.

Takeuchi Seiho “Sankai no Aki” Showa 7 (1932)

Later year, Seiko has painted a lot of works on fish subject.
It is also one of the reasons that it began to stay in Yugawara, where the climate is mild and blessed with mountain seafood.
Drawing casual ingredients of everyday life vividly and lively.

Katsumi Miyake “Aichi-zakura port whole view” around 1960

Katsumi served as a painter specializing in watercolor painting from the Meiji era to the beginning of the Showa era.
It has a beautiful and realistic work influenced by the English landscape paintings.
I spent a lot of late students in Manazuru and painted a lot of port paintings that I liked “It is similar to Nice in South France.”

Teru Yabe “workers”

A Western painter who told Russian art through Japan through the proletarian movement and painted a lot of workers himself.
In Yugawara it evacuated during the war and drawn works such as “Peace signature from rural areas”.

Mitsuo Tomita “Fall of a Stream (Yugawara Manyo Park)”

Born from Yoshihama Town Yugawara Town. Following Mr. Katsumi Miyake, I was involved in the second generation watercolor progression campaign.
While working for a bank, I continued to exhibit energetically, such as at a regular meeting, and also made efforts to spread watercolor painting through lectures and writing activities.

Sotaro Yasui “The scenery where the red bridge can be seen” Showa 29 (1954)

Yasui, who moved to Old Takeuchi Furo’s Gallery, painted the landscape I looked down from the window.

The title “Akashi Bridge” is visible in the lower left of the screen, but it is said that the work which started drawing in late autumn took place in the early summer of the following year, and it was said that it was hidden in the green of the trees along with the change of the season.

garden:
It is a Japanese garden adjacent to the museum. Surrounded by the mountains full of nature, you can enjoy the scenic landscape throughout the year, spring, summer, autumn, winter. Watching the “Monna no Riren shares” which Mr. Hiramatsu paintings handed down from the Monet Foundation, and the water crocodiles playing magical sounds, you can relax and unwind. You can also view from the observation break room inside the exhibition room.

In summer, “Monnet no Riren” blooms pretty flowers,
In autumn, trees full of mountains turn red and yellow,
In winter, it is unusual for Yugawara to wear snow makeup,
From winter to spring, the petals of cold cherry dancing in the pond, the plum blossomily blooming.
